Biz Hygiene

Business hygiene is important for several reasons. One of the top reasons is that it helps to keep employees healthy. A lack of hygiene in a workplace can cause germs to spread. This means if one person come to work with the flu, then others will get easily infected. In addition to helping to keep employees healthy, good hygiene creates a comfortable place for your employees to work. If your business has a strong odor, some of your employees may become distracted to the point that they are not able to work. Also, the strong odor may cause be to not want to be at work, so they simply call out. In order to keep your employees comfortable and healthy, there are a few hygiene tips that could help.

Restrooms

One way to get your employees healthy is by keeping your restrooms clean. Restrooms can be a problem area for passing germs, and by making sure that such areas are clean can help prevent viruses and bacteria from spreading from one person to another. In order to make sure that your restrooms do not become the breeding ground for bacteria or viruses it is recommended to clean such facilities on an hourly schedule. Also, make sure that certain items such as toilet paper, paper towels, and hand soap are properly stocked.

Trash

Secondly, emptying your business trash bins can help to prevent bad hygiene in your business. An overflowing waste container can attract nasty insects such as flies and cockroaches. Both are known to carry diseases salmonella, staphylococcus, and streptococcus. All these diseases could cause your employees to become very ill and not be able to work. When this occurs, your productivity will increase drastically, possibly leading to unsatisfied customers.

It is also important to empty your trash bins periodically so that they do develop an unpleasant odor. If you have a breakroom or eating area in your business, then you know that employees can bring a list of foods to work each day. Any uneaten food is thrown in the trash can. The uneaten leftover meals of 20 plus employees can create an unpleasant odor. This odor can creep out of the breakroom and on to the production floor causing employees to be distracted and not be as productive. Instead of your productivity dropping, you should make sure the trash is emptied periodically.

Hygiene Policy

There is only so much that you can do in a business. Some of the hygiene issues are the responsibility of your employees. There for it is important to create a hygiene policy. One of the rules should be that if an employee catches a contagious ailment, he or she should stay home until they are better. A second rule would be that employees must show up to work with clean clothes and a clean body. An employee that has bad hygiene can distract other employees. A third should be that no strong cologne or perfumes should be worn in the business. Several individuals have allergies and sinus issues and as a result the strong scent of perfumes or colognes can cause issues for them.
